This is a Saratoga type of trunk with a camel back that had a crystalized finish.. Made around 1870's. Original hardware was cleaned of dirt and rust and tung oil was applied. All hardware, handles etc. are original. The outside was painted with a rust inhibiting paint, tung oiled and polyurethane applied. The double lock is original but does not work so no concern of locking trunk and not able to open. It has patent date of Oct. 1871 on it. The hinge has a combination hinge/stay mechanism which is another sign of a high quality trunk. The old paper was removed from inside trunk - sanded and tung oiled. New upholstery material was applied to drop down compartments in lid. The small compartment in middle of lid is original canvas and paper. This trunk is a high quality trunk using 3/4" pine, ornate cast hardware and attention to detail. Has original rollers on bottom. Measurements are 32"wide x 28" tall x 20" deep.
